Mission Partners

The members and friends of St James are committed to serving God and building God’s Kingdom through mission and service projects. And while we do a lot at our church, we know fully well that we can’t do it all on our own. Every year we dedicate 10% of gross pledges toward mission, and much of that is given as financial gifts to partner organizations. Here are some of the organizations that we help support.

North Valley Caring Services

NVCS is a nonprofit organization serving the residents in the Northeast San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. Since beginning as a soup kitchen in 1978, North Valley Caring Services has grown to become the largest single-site food distribution center in the San Fernando Valley, offering multi-pronged interventions to tackle homelessness, poverty, and food insecurity in our community.

St James supports and partners with NVCS through financial gifts, The Feeding Ministry, and volunteer opportunities for church members.

Hope the Mission

At Hope, the mission is to prevent, reduce, and eliminate poverty, hunger, and homelessness. They do this by offering immediate assistance and long-term solutions. Their services are grounded in a deep respect for the dignity inherent in each human being.

St James supports and partners with Hope the Mission through financial gifts and volunteer opportunities for church members.

Missionaries Ryan and Alethia White

Ryan and Alethia White are PC(USA) Mission Co-workers in Germany, serving with Iranian Presbyterian Church in Berlin. You can learn more about their ministry by subscribing to their newsletter.

St James supports and partners with Ryan and Alethia through financial gifts.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is the emergency and refugee program of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. It enables congregations and mission partners of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) to witness to the healing love of Christ through caring for communities adversely affected by crisis and catastrophic events, like natural disasters.

Quilters for Others

Quilters for Others meets on the last Tuesday of the month from 10am to 2pm in Fellowship Hall. They make placemats for Project Angel Food that serves special dietary meals and other food for homebound people. They also make quilts for children and adults undergoing cancer treatments at Northridge Hospital and they donate quilts to Penny Lane, a women and children’s shelter.

St James supports and partners with Quilters for Others by offering free space for their work.

Al-Anon

Al‑Anon is a mutual support program for people whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking. By sharing common experiences and applying the Al-Anon principles, families and friends of alcoholics can bring positive changes to their individual situations, whether or not the alcoholic admits the existence of a drinking problem or seeks help.

St. James hosts an Al-Anon Young People Meeting every Wednesday Night at 8:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall.

Light of Christ Assyrian Church

St. James provides space in Fellowship Hall for weekly gatherings for the Light of Christ Assyrian Church, a community of faith rooted in the love of God. Through the dedication of their leadership, staff members and volunteers, they are committed to the teachings of Jesus Christ, and are here to spread his message. All are invited to Sunday services starting at 4:00PM. Come and join for worship, prayer, and fellowship and experience God’s grace.
